Virgin Chihuahua

While working on my art auction paintings - I have been browsing through several of my art history books to find inspiration and images of royalty. A new idea has developed from my look back into the progression of art throughout the ages - my first work after the royalty will be a little like this:

The Virgin Mary as a Chihuahua

new painting

I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd start up again. I've been asked to be in the Long Beach Museum of Art 2009 Art Auction. This will be the second time I've exhibited for the biannual exhibition, and the last one was pretty successful with a few bids on both paintings. I think this year's paintings will be even more of a crowd pleaser. I'm still working out the ideas for either Victorian era animals or animals representing human characters.

My first idea is in process, a King Charles Spaniel, depicted as Queen Elizabeth

I realized today that I have to thank the installation artist Judy Pfaff for telling me in a summer art critique, when I was 19 years old, to stop trying to use mature subject matter in my artwork, because I was so young, that I should just paint my puppy dog or things like that. I was insulted at the time, but now my puppy dogs are exactly what I want to paint.
